In New York State it is necessary for motorists convicted of DWI seeking relicensing to be evaluated by a substance abuse professional. The motorist must submit to the evaluation which results in a treatment decision that is electronically sent to the OASAS Drinking Drivers Program. This practitioner must be approved by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and must adhere to their recently updated protocol. It is necessary for each motorist to obtain the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles form DS-449 which includes the evaluation treatment decision.Treatment is either recommended or not recommended. If recommended, treatment must be completed before the motorist is eligible for relicensure. It may be performed at The Therapy Center or at an alcohol substance abuse facility of the motorists’ choice.
The TherapyCenter offers several OASAS approved evaluations in our Bedford Hills and Brewster offices under the supervision of Brian Gerety, LCSW-R, Clinical Director. Brian has over 30 years experience in the substance abuse field and has a wide knowledge of resources within the community as well as nationally to make treatment recommendations and referrals. All evaluation appointments are arranged within 24 hours and are completely confidential.
