Our Clinical Staff

The Therapy Center offers a staff of over 40 trained Mental and Behavioral Health Experts. Included on our staff are Board Certified Medical Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Licensed Therapists to provide our services. Each behavioral health specialist adds a level of expertise to provide a comprehensive approach for your care.

 

Jill Abrams, LCSW-R

Jill is a licensed clinical social worker. She received her Masters Degree from Columbia University. She has extensive experience treating adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. Jill specializes in working with children with a variety of emotional and psychological issues.

Maria Bergamin, LCSW-R

Maria is a licensed clinical social worker working with children and adults for over 20 years. Maria addresses conflicts in goal-directed and results -oriented therapy to help individuals and families achieve balance and success in their lives. Additionally, she treats clients who struggle with emotional and psychiatric issues to facilitate well-being in their mental health. Areas of specialty include ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and substance/alcohol abuse.

Ann Burros, LCSW-R


Ann is a graduate of The Fordham University School of Social Work. Following a dance career, Ann decided to pursue her other passion; working with patients to help alleviate symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and adult ADHD.  Additionally, Ann  has extensive experience in the field of trauma and physical symptoms associated with trauma.  Ann is a warm, compassionate, deeply sensitive therapist with 18 years of clinical experience.

Ashley M. Charbonneau, LCSWR

Ashley is an LCSWR who graduated in 2014 from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work with a Masters in Social Work and also holds a Bachelors Degree in psychology from CUNY Hunter. Ashley has been in the field for about 8 years, earning her clinical license and has extensive training in DBT with Charlie Swenson as well as with Behavioral Modification Therapy, Exposure Therapy and other CBT therapies. Ashley began her career working on an intensive inpatient adolescent unit dealing with serious mental health disorders and intensive family work and assessment and evaluation. She then went on to work in an outpatient community clinic where she was able to utilize her vast knowledge of resources in the area to assist and plan for her clients. During her schooling, Ashley also interned at a community residential as well as a skilled nursing facility with medically fragile children. Although Ashley no longer works with children and their families, she utilizes her years of experience to help parents learn more adaptive ways to meet their children’s emotional and behavioral needs. Ashley is skilled in treating an array of mental health issues such as but not limited to, anxiety, depression, anger management, LGBTQ/sexuality/gender issues, bipolar disorder, bereavement, behavioral, borderline personality disorder and much more. Ashley prides herself on forming strong, real relationships with her clients and meeting her clients where they are at and listening to what they need and want and tailoring each individuals treatment to those specific needs and desires. Ashley has had much success in this regard and clients often report finding that she understands them easily and quickly. As Ashley often says, “We are all human and feeling our feelings is part of that so it is about how we deal with our emotions, not about getting rid of them and it is about progress not perfection.”  

Joanne Elliot, LCSW-R, CASAC

Joanne is highly trained and experienced in working with adolescents and adults in outpatient and inpatient settings. She specializes in the treatment of clients with substance abuse disorders.

Janet Girgus, LCSW-R, PhD

Dr. Janet Girgus, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, returns to the Therapy Center after a hiatus working in the special education field.  Her specialty area focused on Developmental Disabilities ranging from pre-k to 21 years of age as well as family dynamics and psychoeducational issues.  Dr. Girgus also has hospital experience working with dually diagnosed clients participating in a continuing day treatment program.  Overall, Dr. Girgus has worked with children, adults, groups, couples and families using varying therapeutic methodologies.  She is happy to mark 2018 as her 20th year of service.

Leslie Hand,  LCSW–R,

Leslie has over 30 years experience working with children, adolescents and families.  She sees  mostly adults and women dealing with women’s issues. Leslie runs a women’s group on Thursday nights from 7 to 8 PM.

Mark W. Hennessey, LCSW–R

Mark is a licensed clinical social worker. Mark’s experience and education have prepared him to provide effective interventions necessary to work with children, adolescents and their families.  Mark approaches his work from a strengths perspective and believes that all children and adolescents need to feel positive about themselves in order to change maladaptive behavior(s).

Linda Kaye, LCSW-R

Linda is an experienced licensed clinical social worker and has worked in various treatment settings including residential treatment, outpatient clinics, hospitals and agency settings.  She has extensive experience treating adolescents and adults including senior citizens coping with health problems, loss, depression, anxiety, phobias and weight issues, as well as a variety of other emotional and behavioral problems.

Irwin Moss, LCSW-R

Irwin is a licensed certified social worker who has spent many years working with adolescents and families. He also works with adults who are suffering with depression, anxiety and in need of family and marital counseling.

Michelle Nordlinger, LCSW

Michelle is an experienced licensed clinical social worker and has worked in various treatment settings, including inpatient and outpatient programs.  Michelle has formal training in various modalities including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, couples and group therapy.  Michelle has extensive experience working with adolescents, adults and older adults in treatment for depression anxiety, loss, grief and other emotional conflicts and challenges.

Tina Privitera, LCSW-R

Tina is a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience.  In addition, she has had advanced modern psychoanalytic training.  She has worked with children, adolescents and adults in a number of settings including outpatient mental health clinics, day treatment, hospital, and a jail.  Tina’s approach is geared towards the needs of the individual and may include cognitive behavioral therapy, object relations-theory, mindfulness and meditation.  She has an accepting and warm approach which acknowledges one’s ego strengths while striving to incorporate needed coping skills.

Jenny Salimbene, LCSW-R, CASAC, CDAC, CP, PAT

Jenny has a Masters of Science/Masters of Social Work degree from Columbia University.  She is a Certified Psychodramatist, a graduate of the School of Playback Theatre and is certified in EMDR.  She has over 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist working in inpatient, outpatient and private practice settings. She specializes in the areas of trauma, PTSD, tweens, adolescents, families, co-dependency/addiction, grief and processing chronic health issues and terminal illness.  She’s also on the faculty of the Hudson Valley Psychodrama Institute and runs weekly psychodrama groups.

Cynthia Schilero, LCSW-R

Cynthia is a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of experience.  She received her Master’s degree from New York University and has post Master’s training in child and adolescent psychotherapy.  She works with children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger and bereavement, as well as other emotional issues.  She provides individual, group, short term and long-term psychotherapy.

John Silver, Ph.D, LCSW-R

John is a licensed clinical social worker with 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist. He provides treatment for anxiety and depression, job loss and stress, bereavement and a variety of other disorders. He works with adults, families, couples, adolescents and children. John has also taught as an adjunct professor at Columbia University and Hunter College schools of social work.

Paula Singer, LCSW-R

Paula is a licensed clinical social worker who has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Her areas of interest are couples, individuals and adolescents. She works well with people who have experienced trauma, as well as people who are interested in creating change in their lives.

Daniel Snow, LCSW

Daniel specializes in helping couples dealing with ongoing conflicts, emotional distance, or a breach of trust.  Couples learn how to identify and change the patterns that cause their mutual distress.  This allows for a new level of understanding and connection that is stable, and enjoyable for both.  Respectful and affirming to both partners, his approach is grounded in methods proven to be effective in over 20 years of research.

He also specializes in work with adults and adolescents experiencing social anxiety, panic, or general anxiety.  He is experienced in facilitating adjustment in life transitions, treatment to alleviate depression, stress management, and improved coping skills for anger and impulse control.  Daniel also works with individuals in recovery.  He is a graduate of Columbia University.

Carolyn L.F. Sultana, LCSW-R, CASAC

Carolyn has been working in the field for over 20 years with children, adolescents and families.  She has worked in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient and residential treating issues related to trauma, addictions, emotional/behavioral problems, as well as mental health/psychiatric issues.  Carolyn is skilled in utilizing various treatment modalities that are strength-based, goal directed, and geared toward positive changes for growth and development.

Cynthia Tonsmeire, LCSW

Cynthia is a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with adolescents, adults and couples.  She is experienced in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, self-injurious behaviors, and relationship issues.  Cynthia comes from a person-centered, strength based approach in which she tailors the therapeutic process to meet the specific needs of each individual client.  She integrates techniques from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to help clients gain insight, identify maladaptive behaviors and develop health coping skills.  Cynthia received her master’s degree in clinical social work from New York University.

Amy Ujifusa, LCSW-R

Amy is an experienced licensed clinical social worker who has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in various treatment settings. These include inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and outpatient. Amy specializes in children’s behavioral issues, mood and anxiety disorders, and utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach in her practice.

Jill Westerman, LCSW–R

Jill is a licensed clinical social worker who is a graduate of New York University and has over 10 years experience. Jill provides ego-supportive solution focused therapy to individuals and families. Her approach is collaborative, affirming and solution seeking. She specializes in the treatment of stress, depression, trauma, anxiety and loss. Jill is a versatile therapist who utilizes an eclectic approach while working with adolescents, adults and families.  Jill facilitates social skills groups and adolescent groups to assist in development and interpersonal social competency through peer support. The groups help the members to thrive emotionally and succeed in school, social relationships and at home.
